Ingredients

For the dough 

  • 1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
  • 4 tablespoon low fat milk
For the filling
  • 1 cup chana (split Bengal gram) dal
  • 3 teaspoons (approx.) sugar substitute
Other ingredients
  • Whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) for rolling
For serving
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ghee for cooking
Method

For the dough

  • Make soft dough using the flour, milk and a little water (if required). Knead it well.
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and set aside.
For the filling
  • Clean, wash and soak chana dal for 1 hour.
  • Drain the soaked chana dal, add ½ cup of water and cook it in a pressure cooker for 2 to 3 whistles.
  • Lightly mash the dal, add the sugar substitute and mix well. Cool completely and keep aside.
How to proceed
  • Roll out one portion of the dough into a circle of 75 mm (3") diameter using a little flour.
  • Place a portion of the filling in the centre of the circle.
  • Bring together all the sides in the centre and seal tightly.
  • Roll out again into a circle of 75 mm (3") diameter using a little flour.
  • Cook on a non-stick pan until both sides are brown.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough and filling to make 7 more puranpolis.
